If you are working on a Casablanca Next Generation video editor, running the Bogart Operating System I would strongly advise or caution you to be very careful with what external devices you have connected to your Casablanca editor when you boot-up (when you turn the power on at the beginning of an edit session).

Since the release of the Casablanca Bogart series products we were cautioned to avoid having external devices connected on power-up.  This includes external hard-drives, USB flash drives, and disks like CDs or DVDs. 

The reason why this can be 'dicey' is that the Casablanca, like most computers are programmed to 'look' to an external device for a start-up procedure.  This is how your Casablanca is able to install a brand new OS version.  This can be changed in what is called the Boot Order.

For maximum safety I don't even like having a fire-wire (DV) cable connected to my Bogart Casablanca when I start it up.  I only have the keyboard & trackball, and the monitor cables connected when I start either my Casablanca S4000PRO or my S3000 (I am not so cautious on my Renommee PLUS but avoid having a flash drive or disk in the unit when starting that Smart Edit unit)

And remember NEVER hot-swap a DV or Fire-wire cable, on any Casablanca or any computer for that matter.  Leave your DV device (camcorder or DV deck) powered off when you connect the cable to your Casablanca - then turn the power on.  This can help you avoid damaging your Casablanca and/or your device (which is a costly repair!)
